As Cis Higgins enters her 32nd year as a professional musician, there are two things she will be happy to tell you:
First, her Mother, Bonnie, will take full credit for her
music career since she named her Cecelia after the Patron Saint of Music.
The second is that in
her 32 years
she's never had a bad gig.
Her first professional gig was as a break singer for the acts at Pier 44 in Scituate.
|
Because of her age she was unable to see the main acts, and had to have
a parent present during her performance.
Because of her love of all music the next few years brought many
different
style to her growing repertoire of songs. Cis performed 30 - 40's music in a
big band,
sang and danced in productions of Carousel, H.M.S. Pinafore, South Pacific
and Oklahoma.
For about 5 years Cis performed as a solo act at coffee houses in New
England.
Through Dave Jackson from the coffee house she was introduced to Tom Corsile
and
Debby Johnson who would play a very important part in her career over the
next 10 years.
Debby and Cis went on to form the multiple award winning state and regional
duo
Honky Tonk Angels. Also during this time Cis started performing with Tom
Corsile at weddings and functions. Two years later she joined his act. They were a
popular variety/music act on the South Shore for many years.
In 1987 Cis was introduced to Massachusetts Country Music Icon, Yankee Jack and became very interested
in performing in the Country Music Field.
Soon after she formed the Sleepless Nights Band.
The multiple award winning band performed together up till this year.
They were the house band for the Massachusetts Country Music Awards Show for 6
years with Cis as the music director.
The last 2 year Sleepless Nights performed mainly functions
and an occasional club date. Still they were nominated for The Boston Music Nemo
Awards for Outstanding Country Act of 1999.
During the past 2 years Cis has been performing often with
Anne Marie Collins of the
Silver Dollar Band and Cindy Lane of
True Country. The three girls formed a trio Homer's Angels,
and Cis and Ann Marie
formed a duo called Girls with Guitars.
The more Cis and Anne Marie performed together the more the fans wanted.
In November 2000 Anne Marie asked Cis to join The Silver Dollar Band.
Although Cis is usually seen playing her white acoustic Washburn, she also plays banjo, mandolin, keyboards, harmonica and auto harp. Now that she's joined a band and not fronting a band she is hoping to get a chance to play some of the other instruments she loves.
Unfortunatly due to health reasons beyond her control, Cis has had to go on haiatis from singing. Hopefully one day she will be able to entertain us once again untill then we all wish her the best speedy recovery.
